Paul Allen honored by Seattle in blue; Buildings around downtown paid their respects
Photographer David Rosen of SlickPix Photography captured this unforgettable view of the downtown Seattle skyline honoring Seahawks owner and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen who passed away in mid-October.
CenturyLink Field and Virginia Mason Athletic Center, and many other Pacific Northwest landmarks, buildings, and institutions lit up blue on Saturday and will again Sunday in honor of Paul Allen, the Seattle Seahawks owner who died last month from complications of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“Our family and all of us at Vulcan continue to be touched by the outpouring of support from so many of the people Paul’s life touched,” Paul Allen’s sister Jody Allen said in a statement. “These beacons of light in Paul’s memory are a wonderful tribute and a reminder there remains important work to do.”

Last week, the Seahawks unveiled patches featuring Allen’s initials, the 12 flag, and CenturyLink Field’s arches in the background that the team will wear for the remainder of the 2018 season. The team also dedicated its 24-14 road win over the Detroit Lions to Allen, giving the game ball to Seahawks Vice Chairman Bert Kolde, Allen’s longtime close friend.
"Around here we’re all hanging together and staying really close and just making sure that we’re doing all the things we need to do to carry on and really maintain the effort and the spirit Paul always stood for, which was extraordinary achievement, extraordinary idealist, keep pushing always to do great things,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the day after Allen’s passing. “I feel fortunate that we’re the ones that get to carry on the messaging in that regard and we have this extraordinary way to connect with the people in the area through our play, and sometimes sports just serves perfectly when you need it, and this is a good time for (that).”
