2018 Vision 20/20 Art Auction & Party This Coming Saturday, Nov. 17
This is a quick reminder that the largest local art auction of the year, Vision 20/20, is this coming Saturday, November 17, at the Burien Community Center. Doors open at 6:30 PM.
The majority of participating artists are from Burien, Normandy Park, Des Moines, and SeaTac. .
A main feature of Vision 20/20 is an array of 8”x8” small works at affordable prices, just in time for the holidays. This year, 46 artists have each produced nine 8”x8” pieces, priced at $40 each. Browse the displays to find the works you love before the bell rings, which is the signal to grab your favorites off the wall and proceed to the cashiers.
Another 22+ artists will display larger works and crafts in a silent auction. Write down your bid on the bid sheet by the piece any time during the event. The highest bidder buys at the end of the evening.
Music will be provided by Abaraka (pronounced ‘a-Baraka’). The group uses kora, voice, bass, hand percussion, and drums to perform its own arrangements of West African Mandinka music, based on traditional kora pieces. An buffet will feature appetizers donated by local restaurants and markets as well as wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
There will also be raffles for a range of goods and services donated by local businesses.
The original concept for Vision 20/20 was developed by Erin Williamson, 2007 Executive Director of Burien Arts. The plan was for 20 artists to create 20 works, hence the name Vision 20/20. The auction has been running for eleven years.
Vision 20/20 is one of the most important fundraisers for the programs of the Burien Arts Association, which include monthly art exhibits and receptions, summer art classes for children, Shakespeare in the Park, a monthly open mic, face painting at City events, the strawberry shortcake book at Strawberry Days, musical events, lectures, and the Linda Dougherty Scholarship fund. Most of our events are free.
The Burien Community Center is located at 14700 6th Avenue SW, Burien, WA.
