The snowstorm interrupted a lot of people's plans and put a lot of services on hold. Among them was regular garbage collection. Seattle Public Utilities has posted an update on when where and how your garbage will be picked up if it has not yet happened. Plus information on where you can drop it off yourself and a credit to be issued to folks who had two or more days missed.
information from SPU
Seattle’s recent unprecedented weather conditions presented significant challenges to collection garbage, recycling, and food/yard waste from 150,000 residential households and 6,000 multifamily accounts throughout Seattle. At every safe weather opportunity, drivers collected waste from as many customers as possible, including critical locations like hospitals, multi-family buildings and high-volume commercial customers.
Improved weather through the coming weekend should allow for additional pickups for customers whose garbage collection has been significantly delayed. Our crews are prioritizing pickup for as many Monday customers as possible (many Monday customers have been missed two weeks in a row) by deploying additional resources. Seattle Department of Transportation has also deployed their crews to assist our contractors by plowing streets where they encounter difficulties, and Seattle Parks and Seattle Housing Authority will also assist as we work to resume normal pickups.
- Monday, Thursday, and Friday customers who have not received service are asked to put their garbage bins and bags out at the curb beginning Friday, Feb. 15, for pickup Friday or Saturday. (We will also attempt to collect Thursday and Friday customers’ recycling and food/yard waste.) Customers may put out double the usual amount of garbage at no additional charge.
Safety remains our top priority. Some areas of the city are still unsafe for collection vehicles:
- If you are a Tuesday or Wednesday customer and your collection was missed please bring your bins in.
- Any customers whose collection was missed this week may put out double the amount of garbage, recycling, or food/yard waste next week, when regular service is expected to resume (weather permitting).
