High schools
Boys basketball
West Seattle went into the Sea-King District tournament as the No. 10 seed, finished third, and came out as the No. 8 seed in the entire state.
The top eight seeds get an automatic entry into next week’s state finals at the Tacoma Dome no matter what happens at the state regional level this weekend.
The Wildcats will play No. 1-seeded Eastside Catholic in their regional game at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Issaquah High School gymnasium.
Mount Rainier, on the other hand, is a No. 13 seed into the Class 4A state regionals and faces a loser-out game this Saturday. The Rams meet No. 12 Wenatchee for a 4 p.m. battle at Ellensburg High School.
Girls basketball
The West Seattle girls finished just out of the top eight seeding at No. 9 and as such will face a loser-out state regional at 6 p.m. Friday at Garfield High School. The Wildcats will be taking on No. 16 Meadowdale.
Foster finds itself in an us or it’s Sequim situation at the 2A level, playing the Wolves at 8 p.m. Friday at Auburn Mountainview in a loser-out state regional.
Gymnastics
This year’s state meet runs Thursday through Saturday of this week at Sammamish High School rather than the traditional site of the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.
The 1A/2A/3A meet starts with the march-in at 12 p.m. Thursday with the finals starting at 10:45 a.m. Friday.
Class 4A competition begins at 2 p.m. Friday with finals getting underway at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

Thunderbirds
Seattle visits the Everett Silvertips for 7:35 p.m. Western Hockey League action Friday before coming home to the Showare Center in Kent to take on the Portland Winterhawks at 6:05 p.m. Saturday.
Stars
Tacoma will play a 5:05 p.m. indoor soccer match against the Dallas Sidekicks at the Showare Center in Kent this Sunday.
It will feature an induction ceremony into the Washington State Youth Soccer Hall of Fame that will include Kennedy graduate Michelle French.
Seawolves
Seattle battles New York in a 4 p.m. Major League Rugby match at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila this Sunday.
CBSSN will televise the action live.
Mariners
Seattle opens its spring training schedule Thursday with a 12:05 p.m. visit to the Oakland A’s in Arizona.
They take on the same team in a 12:10 p.m. game in Peoria, Ariz. on Friday that can be seen on the ROOT Sports cable television network, as can a game at the same time and place Saturday against the San Diego Padres.
The Mariners visit the Colorado Rockies at 12:10 p.m. Sunday and host the Cincinnati Reds at the same time Monday on ROOT Sports.
Colleges
Husky men
The Pac-12 leading University of Washington men’s basketball team hosts Utah for an 8 p.m. Wednesday game on FS1 before entertaining Colorado at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a game carried on the Pac-12 cable television network.
Husky women
Washington visits Utah at 6 p.m. Friday and drops in on Colorado at 12 p.m. Sunday.
Cougar men
Washington State University will be at home in Pullman playing Colorado at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Utah at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Both games can be seen on the Pac-12 network.
Cougar women
The Cougars visit Colorado for a 6 p.m. Friday game that will be televised on the Pac-12 network before visiting Utah at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Redhawk men
Seattle University hosts Kansas City for a 7 p.m. game Thursday before entertaining Chicago State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Redhawk women
Seattle visits Kansas City at 4 p.m. Thursday and goes to Chicago State for a 12 p.m. Saturday contest.
Falcon men
Seattle Pacific University hosts Montana State-Billings at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Royal Brougham Pavilion.
Falcon women
SPU entertains Alaska Anchorage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Royal Brougham and hosts Alaska Fairbanks at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Bulldog men
Gonzaga University hosts Pepperdine at 6 p.m. Thursday in Spokane and Brigham Young University at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Both games will be televised on ROOT Sports.
Bulldog women
Gonzaga visits Santa Clara at 7 p.m. Thursday and goes to San Francisco for 2 p.m. action Saturday.
