A brush fire in the 10700 block 14 Ave. SW of White Center that spread to a seven- unit apartment complex is under investigation.
The fire was reported at 3:00 pm to 911. When the first fire department units arrived, they quickly upgraded the incident to a second, and then a third alarm to get additional resources at the scene.
Wind quickly sent sparks from the burning brush onto the roof of the apartment building, igniting the roof and forcing the evacuation of the residents. None suffered any injuries.
The siding of another apartment complex was damaged by the radiant heat and a fence was badly burned in several places.
Three firefighters were treated at the scene due to non-life threatening medical situations. Two of them were transported to local hospitals.
Units from throughout south King County and Seattle responded to the incident and Red Cross is assisting the displaced families.
