Kennedy Catholic came away with a third place finish from Friday North Puget Sound League fastpitch softball tournament action at the Kent Service Center.
The Lancers took a 13-2 loss to Auburn in the semifinals to start the day but rebounded to beat Federal Way, 5-4, that evening to earn the No. 3 berth into the West Central District tournament.
Kennedy opens District action at 11 a.m. Friday back at the Kent Service Center.
Mount Rainier, meanwhile, faces a play-in game to get there, taking on Olympia at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Curtis.
The Rams took an 11-1 loss to Kentridge this past Friday.
Tyee just missed the 2A version of the district tournament with a 9-8 loss at River Ridge on Friday as Highline was eliminated by a 13-0 loss at Orting.
Boys soccer
Highline finished sixth in the West Central District 2A playoffs with a 2-1 loss to Port Angeles at Franklin Pierce Stadium on Saturday.
The Pirates will go on the road to open state sometime early this week.
