Kennedy Catholic came up short in its quest to capture a state Class 4A fastpitch softball tournament berth.
The Lancers' season ended with a 9-6 loss to Auburn-Riverside in a rare Sunday morning West Central District tournament game.
The tournament was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but wet field conditions Friday at the Kent Service Center bumped it to Saturday and Sunday.
Kennedy opened with a Saturday morning game against Sumner and lost it to the Spartans by a 10-2 score.
The Lancers bounced back in the afternoon, beating Olympia, 14-4.
Kennedy needed two more wins to make state, but instead lost its next game to Auburn-Riverside.
