West Seattle came up one run shy in its quest to come back through the losers bracket and snag a District 7 Major age 10-12 Little League baseball all-star tournament title and the state tournament berth that goes with it.
Rainier District held off the Westsiders, 4-3, in an if necessary second championship game Saturday at the Bar-S Fields in West Seattle after beating the same team in a first championship the day before.
West Seattle lost to Rainier Beach in the earlier winners bracket final, then beat Seattle Central in the losers final to earn a rematch.
West Seattle was managed by Otis Moore and the coaches were Brian Sherick and Matt LaBella.
Players were Cody Buehring, Jesse LaBella, Joe Sherick, Caden Ross, Reece Holmes, Cody Sazama, Ivan Moore, Duncan Monnin, Cam Fitterer, Hudson Harding, Jones Kasperson, Nicholas Beardemphl, Marko Woelfle and Dex Pudduck.
Minor age 8-10
West Seattle's stay in the Minors age 8-10 state tournament ended with a 10-2 loss to District 10 champion Federal Way National last Thursday in Gig Harbor.
The Westsiders had rebounded for a 9-5 victory over Fort Vancouver after opening with a 12-2 loss to Pacific of Edmonds.
West Seattle earlier won the District 7 championship.
