Highline had fun in the sun Friday afternoon, dealing close rival Evergreen a 34-0 football defeat.

The game was played at 3 p.m. in the daylight instead of under the lights at 7 p.m. as scheduled because, well, there were no lights working at Highline Memorial Stadium.

Someone stole necessary copper wiring from the stadium the previous week, leaving it in the dark at night.

But the Pirates cruised along while both teams basked in the glow of a clear and crisp autumn afternoon.

They took a 7-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and widened it to 21-0 by halftime before controlling the second half 13-0.

Evergreen's last ditch drive to get on the scoreboard ended just short of the goal line at the final buzzer.

Both teams now stand at 2-4 overall, with Highline improving to 2-0 in South Puget Sound League play.

Evergreen fell to 2-1.

The Wolverines host Renton for a 7:30 p.m. Thursday game if the lights at Highline Memorial are repaired in time.

Highline visits Foss at 7 p.m. Friday at Mount Tahoma in Tacoma, although Foss has been forfeiting its previous games.
