Oh, those big heads! Watching the battle between Herbold and Tavel unfold is a bit amusing.
And it is not easy to understand who is telling the truth. The incident where a ramshackle motorhome was parked in front of Herbold’s house, the one where the Tavel camp says she does not live, has a theatrical flair to it. Assertions from the Herbold camp that Tavel is a scofflaw is verifiable. Tavel shrugs off the charges. But he does the same with parking tickets.
Things we know about the candidates
Herbold is a terrific communicator, (much better than King County Council member Joe McHermit) and is boots on the ground in the community. But she made the business community mad with her support for a head tax and now they want to crush her.
Tavel is a Jack-of-all trades and has decided to try his hand at politics again. He has nowhere near the policy experience that Herbold has and has a big learning curve ahead if elected. But he has drawn the big bucks from the business community and even the endorsement of the Seattle Times, which is among the big business supporters of his campaign.
The pair are bound to continue throwing rocks at each other until Election Day as they have at multiple community meetings. In this sense, they are a lot like a certain president, who has glamorized name calling and nastiness in political life.
Consider writing in an alternative representative for this important council seat.
