We are less than two weeks away from the start of tolling in the SR 99 tunnel. WSDOT produced a video that tells you everything you need to know about how tolling will work.

WSDOT’s Toll Division still has a few free Good To Go! passes to give away before tolling starts. Having an activated Good To Go! pass and account will allow you to pay the lowest rates ($1 - $2.25) when driving the tunnel.

Tolling the tunnel is required by law, with the money being used to pay for building the tunnel and its ongoing operations and maintenance costs.

The Alaskan Way Viaduct is being whittled away to nothing

The concrete highway that once dominated Seattle’s central waterfront is now just two tiny sections of half-demolished structure on a slope near Pike Place Market. The two remaining sections may be fully gone within the next few weeks. The pace of work is slower on this slope because crews are only allowed to work at certain times above the railroad tracks that pass beneath the structure. Seventh Avenue North construction zone changing soon

Crews have been working since February on Seventh Avenue North, which connects SR 99 and the north end of the tunnel with Denny Way and downtown. The work zone has shifted over time as crews pour new concrete roadway and build sidewalks.

Today the road is one lane in each direction between Harrison Street and Denny Way. Later this year, crews are scheduled to open a second lane in each direction. This will help improve vehicle and transit travel times for this busy corridor. Overall construction of this North Surface Streets project is expected to wrap up in mid-2020.
