Information from the City of Burien
In support of State and County directives and our community’s public health, the City of Burien is closing recreation programs and centers, as follows:
- All outdoor, park-related rentals and programs are also canceled. This includes picnic shelters, ball fields, park rentals, and programs.
This closure will take place between March 16, 2020 and May 1, 2020. The City will re-evaluate the situation in mid-April to determine whether continued closures are necessary.
All afterschool programs will be canceled in accordance with school cancellations. The City is in communication with Highline Public Schools to determine how the City of Burien can support families during school closures.
The status of other programs and operations within the PaRCS system are:
- All parks and park restrooms will remain open.
- Leased spaces such as the Annex will remain open to tenants and Environmental Science Center.
The City will credit participants for those programs and rentals impacted by the closures. If you have questions about rescheduling a rental or class, or receiving a refund, please contact PaRCS by phone at (206) 988-3700 or parksinfo@burienwa.gov between our business hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
The City understands there are impacts to these decisions and canceling programs will effects have on our community. However, there is strong evidence that minimizing social contact will reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus and the death rate.
