Paper flyers, a wagon (aptly named the “Corona Cart”), and determination are the only items two local high schoolers need to get involved during their six-weeks-off. Aidan Grambihler and Tennessee Herrin, students at Garfield High School, have organized a food & supply drive to benefit the West Seattle Food Bank amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Their drive focuses on collecting items such as canned food, single-serving items, and toiletries that the food bank is in great need of at this time.

However, their idea for a food drive has a unique touch - rather than asking for donations person-to-person, Grambihler and Herrin leave flyers on neighbors’ doorsteps and collect marked donations the next day in their Corona Cart while practicing social distancing.

They performed a test-run this past weekend and saw great results! Of the fifty houses they left flyers at, they collected an estimated 175 pounds of food, including 115 canned items and 31 dry items. Says Grambihler, “We were amazed by the results! We greatly appreciate everyone who donated.” Herrin agreed: “We can’t wait to continue supporting the community. We are looking forward to rolling out the Corona Cart in other parts of the neighborhood. Thank you to our West Seattle neighbors who have generously donated!” 

They plan to visit more houses throughout the coming weeks, as long as restrictions are not put in place.
