A fire swept through new construction around 3:30 am on Saturday morning April 11 at 2329 48th SW.
The building, whose construction was suspended along with all other construction (other than government projects) due to the pandemic, was intended to be two side by side 3-story, 5-unit rowhouse buildings.
Multiple units battled the blaze but got it under control. A nearby family was safely evacuated from an adjacent home.
The SFD said the fire, "caused debris from the fire to travel throughout the area and land on roofs, vehicles and yards."
No one was injured in the fire.
No cause or amount of damage has yet been announced.
Fire investigators were on the scene.
My daughter and grandchildren live near this one. There is no longer a reason for any builders to take this undo risk we are fire defending wood framed building under construction all around the US now because they are vulnerable to arson attacks during construction. All raw lumber buildings are vulnerable this is the 7th suspicious fire this year with 65 in the last 3 years. Arson and burning wood structures down all around the US and now the tall Mass Timber folks think its ok to build high rise out of raw lumber. My new GreenCe course that publishes next week is out to teach Architects that we do not need to take this risk any longer now that new clean fire inhibitor can defend wood framed structures during construction and shut wild fire down so much faster that with labor and the foams, gels and fire retardants that do not work well.
