Matthew Robert-David Hicks, 35 was arrested on July 16 and accused of arson and burglary in the July 8 fire in White Center that destroyed the former Yarington's Funeral Home at 107th and 16th Ave SW. 

Hicks will be arraigned July 30.

The fire was set in the early morning hours and advanced too quickly for firefighters to save the building. 

Hicks was arrested and booked into King County Jail for the crimes.

According to charging documents from the King County Prosecutor's office Hicks is accused of breaking into the building a charge of Burglary in the Second Degree and then starting or causing a fire, Arson in the First Degree.

The charging documents also state that Hicks "fought the officers" and has a "lengthy history of crime," including thefts, assault, criminal trespass, Vehicle Prowling, Malicious Mischief, Taking a Vehicle without permission, Burglary, Negligent Driving, Resisting Arrest, and Harrassment, The documents state that he has at least 7 cases with warrant history, and say "he is a flight risk and a threat to community safety."

Built in 1948 the former funeral home was sold to a developer last year for $3.7 million, and had a similar fire though much smaller last April.
