It takes a lot of hard working people to put out a weekly newspaper.
One of those hard working people with a lot of heart is Gerardo Bolong. For the last 32 years, Gerardo has toiled evenings and weekends, covering local sports for our sports editor Tim Clinton. His selfless work ethic was interrupted by the COVID virus.
With no high school or little league sports to cover, Gerardo had little to keep him busy. His 10 year job as a seating host at Mariner games is on idle.
A graduate of Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen, Gerado earned a BA in education from Western Washington State College. His education took him to Federal Way to teach elementary school. He'll advise the yearbook staff when kids get back to school. He's also the science fair adviser when he is not coaching little league baseball or playing an instrument in the Federal Way Symphonic Band. He does it all with heart: Gerardo is a heart transplant survivor functioning well 15 years after surgery.
Gerardo, we salute your heart, your desire to write and take pictures, your interest in journalism and your loyalty to the newspaper. You are a most important person. You make things go here at the newspaper.
