Smalls comes up big in UW win
Kennedy Catholic graduate Sav'ell Smalls came through with huge tackles on back-to-back plays to help the University of Washington Huskies to a 44-27 football victory over Arizona last Saturday.
The first was for a loss and the second near the line of scrimmage, forcing the Wildcats to punt and send the Huskies along their way to a 17-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter.
Smalls is a true freshman outside linebacker who came in as a five-star recruit.
Thornton walks on at WSU
Zane Thornton, another Kennedy Catholic graduate, walked on as a two-star athlete and made the roster for the Washington State University football team in Pullman.
The freshman wide receiver and free safety enrolled at the school Aug. 1 and proceeded to try out with the Cougars.
McDaniels drafted and traded
Federal Way graduate Jaden McDaniels was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 28th pick of the first round of the National Basketball Association draft last week and promptly traded to Minnesota.
McDaniels joins his older brother Jalen with the Timberwolves. Minnesota made Jalen a second round pick last year.
