Seahawks

Seattle will be playing for National Football Conference playoff seeding purposes when it visits the San Francisco 49ers for a 1:25 p.m. regular season finale Sunday on Channel 13 television.

The Seahawks wrapped up the NFC West title with a 20-9 home win over the Los Angeles Rams this past Sunday, running their record to 11-4.

They can finish anywhere as the No. 1 to No. 3 playoff seed depending on the 49ers game and the season finales of the Green Bay Packers (12-3) and New Orleans Saints (11-4).

The game against the Rams was a defensive gem and included a memorable goal line stand by Seattle.  The Seahawks stopped LA on four downs after it was inches away from the end zone on third and fourth down.

Jordyn Brooks finished the game with seven tackles and one assist and Jamal Adams with six tackles and two assists.  Shaquill Griffin had five tackles and two assists.

Quarterback Russell Wilson completed 20 of 32 passes for 225 yards and Chris Carson carried the ball 16 times for 69 yards.

DK Metcalf caught six passes for 59 yards.

Colleges

Husky men

Arizona visits West Seattle's Nate Pryor and Washington for a 5 p.m. Thursday game and Arizona State comes to town for a 3:30 p.m. Saturday contest.

Thursday's action can be seen on the Pac-12 cable television network and Saturday's on Fox Sports 1.

Husky women

Washington is at Colorado at 2 p.m. Friday and at Utah at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Friday's game will be on Live Stream and Sunday's on Pac-12WA.

Cougar men

Washington State University ran its record to 8-0 with a 62-52 victory over Northwestern State last Wednesday.

Nigerian native Efe Abogidi scored 15 points and hauled down 12 rebounds to lead the way. The 6-foot, 10-inch Cougar freshman also blocked four shots.

Isaac Bonton added 13 points and had three steals, Myles Warren hit 11 points and Andrei Jakimovski had 12 rebounds.

The Cougars host Arizona State at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Palouse and Arizona at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with the Pac-12 network showing both games live.

Cougar women

Ula Motuga led in last Tuesday's 73-52 win over Eastern Washington with 13 points as Charlisse Leger-Walker contributed 12, Celina Molina 11 and Michaela Jones 10.

Johanna Teder had five assists and Bella Murekatete six rebounds.  Molina led with five steals.

Next up for the Cougars (4-1) is a visit to Utah this Friday and they go to Colorado this Sunday.  Both games start at 11 a.m.

Redhawk men

Seattle University entertains Portland for a 6 p.m. Wednesday game before taking off until Friday, Jan. 15 when it hosts Utah Valley at 6 p.m.

Redhawk women

The Lady Redhawks visit Utah Valley for their next action Friday, Jan. 15 at a time to be announced.

Bulldog men

Gonzaga University won four games in the span of a week, improving to 9-0 on the year and showing why it is ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Corey Kispert scored 25 points and Joel Ayayi flirted with a triple double in a 112-64 rout of Dixie State on Tuesday evening to cap off the week.

Ayayi hit 21 points while accumulating 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Oumar Ballo added 17 points off the bench.

Northern Arizona was the Zags' victim Monday by an 88-58 score.

Ayayi racked up 17 points and 10 rebounds.  Drew Timme scored 14 points and Andrew Nembhard had 10 points and seven assists starting in place of injured freshman star Jalen Suggs.

Kispert sank a school record nine three pointers and a career best 32 points as Gonzaga defeated Virginia by a 98-75 score this past Saturday.

Timme added a career high 29 points and a team leading eight rebounds.

Virginia won the 2019 national title before COVID cancelled the NCAA tournament in 2020.

The Bulldogs defeated Northwestern State for the second day in a row the previous Tuesday, 95-78.

Timme led with 25 points and nine rebounds and Suggs sank 19 points as Kispert hit 18.

Next on the schedule for Gonzaga is a 7 p.m. Saturday home game in Spokane against San Francisco.

Bulldog women

Gonzaga improved its record to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in West Coast Conference action by posting a 65-62 win over Loyola Marymount on Monday.

Jill Townsend knocked in 19 points and hauled down 10 rebounds in the win and Jenn Wirth 14 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Cierra Walker chipped in 12 points and LeeAnne Wirth scored 10.

The Lady Bulldogs visit Pepperdine at 5 p.m. this Wednesday and host Saint Mary's on Saturday at 2 p.m.
