Winter and spring have been flipped.
Winter now follows spring according to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
Spring high school sports open with practices March 15 and conclude May 1 per a meeting of the WIAA Executive Board held Tuesday.
Traditional winter sports now open practices April 26 with the season concluding June 12.
The switch was made because the indoor winter sports are deemed more dangerous in today's COVID-19 world and will hopefully have a better shot at being allowed to take place the later they are held.
Spring sports are outdoors and will be allowed to take place earlier.
Traditional fall sports practices are still rescheduled to begin Feb. 1.
The WIAA sets beginning dates and the dates for regional culminating events, while earlier schedules this year are determined by the leagues and districts.
