The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has filed a second-degree rape case against Mahdi M. Hussein.
In this case, Mr. Hussein is accused of attacking a complete stranger at a bus stop in West Seattle. The defendant physically and sexually violated the victim before the victim was able to break free from the defendant. The defendant pursued the victim before forcibly raping the victim in a public space.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked that Mr. Hussein be held on $75,000. The judge agreed. He remains in the King County Jail.
Mr. Hussein’s arraignment, where he’s expected to enter a plea, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 17 in room E1201A of the King County Courthouse. In 2012, our office filed a theft case against Mr. Hussein, which led to a conviction (case number 12-1-04748-7).
Police investigators noted in their report that the victim in this case goes by the pronouns he/they.
Through yesterday (Feb. 3), this case is the 20th rape case filed this year by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
In 2020, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed 187 rape cases through Dec. 10. In 2019, we filed 117 cases. There were increases in many types of violent crime in 2020, including increased criminal filings for rapes, domestic violence, animal cruelty, internet crimes against children and homicides.
