Only a handful of people in the stands.

No band.  No cheerleaders.

But the Ballard and Seattle Prep football teams were there at Seattle Memorial Stadium on Friday evening with Ballard's Beavers grinding out a 15-7 win.

It was the Metro League opener for both teams after the regular fall season was postponed by the Covid 19 virus.

The Beavers had the ball at the end, wearing out the clock with a drive almost all the way across the field after a Prep drive stalled on downs at the other end.

Ballard faces a tougher test this coming Friday when it hosts a powerful O'Dea team at 5 p.m. back at Seattle Memorial.

West Seattle 45, Cleveland 6

West Seattle took its turn playing at mostly empty Seattle Memorial on Saturday and also emerged as a winner in its Metro League opener.

Coach Jeff Scott's Wildcats tuned up for Friday's annual Huling Bowl game against Chief Sealth by clobbering the Cleveland Eagles, 45-6.

As for the Huling Bowl, Sealth will host it at 7 p.m. this coming Friday at the Southwest Athletic Complex across the street from its campus.

No fans will be admitted because of the Covid 19 protocols.

Roosevelt 41, Chief Sealth 28

Roosevelt outgunned Chief Sealth in a high scoring affair at the Southwest Athletic Complex on Saturday evening.

The Sealth team is also now looking forward to Friday's Huling Bowl back on the same field.

In other action this coming Friday, Mount Rainier opens with a 7 p.m. home game against Federal Way at Highline Memorial as Highline journeys to Tukwila to take on Foster.

Kennedy Catholic takes its high scoring pass attack on the road to Maple Valley to play Tahoma at its new campus at the same time.

Evergreen waits until Friday, March 19 to open against Highline at Highline Memorial at 6 p.m.
