McPherson breaks beach record
Kennedy Catholic graduate and West Seattle resident Shayne McPherson is now the winningest player in University of Washington beach volleyball history with 49 career victories.
The senior broke the record in the pairs competition at the recent Corban University tournament in Salem, Ore., teaming with Chloe Loreen to go 5-0 in taking the title.
The old career record was 47 wins.
Kasim earns shutout for Seattle
West Seattle graduate Akili Kasim recorded the shutout on goal for the Seattle University men's soccer team in its 1-0 victory at a snowy Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs last Tuesday.
Habib Barry, a Tyee grad, scored one goal for the Redhawks in a 7-1 win Sunday over Incarnate Word.
Soto scores one goal, one assist
Mount Rainier graduate Christian Soto scored one goal and one assist for the University of Washington men's soccer team in a 2-0 road win over UCLA.
Giomi hauls down one rebound
University of Oregon senior and West Seattle graduate Lydia Giomi had one rebound in helping the Ducks to a 67-47 NCAA tournament win over South Dakota on Monday.
Oregon advances to play Georgia at a time to be announced Wednesday.
Sarver gets in on six minutes
West Seattle graduate Grace Sarver saw six minutes of action for the Washington State University women's basketball team in its 57-53 NCAA tournament opening loss to South Florida Sunday.
The Cougars were making their first tournament appearance in 30 years and their second ever.
Sarver is a sophomore guard.
