Highland Park Corner Store owner Meaghan Haas said, "we’re opening up the inside of Highland Park Corner Store with groceries, beer, wine, and seating. We’ve put a lot of work into the space and are excited to open our doors to the community."

The Highland Park Corner Store WestsideSeattle told you about first at 7789 Highland Park Way was well received when they opened last March. Owner Meaghan Haas said, "the reception was so overwhelmingly positive" that she was thrilled with how many people came to make it their neighborhood, "third place". She noted that the people at the nearby Bethany West Seattle Church stop by now regularly after a Sunday service to have a coffee and conversation.
But since the opening the plan has always been to expand the seating, products sold and to lay the ground work for events to be held there. That grand 're-opening' is happening this weekend Sept. 5 and 6 with some very special things planned.
Saturday will feature CocinaMX 32 (a White Center catering company) from 11am to 2pm doing a "pop up" event full of delcious Mexican food, then Sunday Free hot dogs will be on the menu, hot off the grill (while supplies last).
"We have a lot of folks who live in the neighborhood who are in the music industry and they will be coming by to do some DJing, supplying the music throughout the weekend from 12 pm to 8pm."
They are adding grocery staples like bread, milk, eggs, yogurt, butter, sugar, condiments and more. They've had beer and wine but now the selection is growing substantially. Four beers will be available on tap and two house wines by the glass will be served. Hard seltzers, hard Kombucha and ciders are in the store as well for carry out.
Walden Selections wines is working with the Corner Store to offer a range of 24 different wines. All the wines are natural and organic from small vintners in the state.
Meaghan enjoys baking so there will be a section for home baking too.
The coffee service (with all the usual suspects) and ready made sandwiches will continue until they can work on more house made versions. But for now a Smoky Chicken Bacon Melt is on the menu, a Cuban Melt and for breakfast Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwiches are available, plus sunrise breakfast tacos.
The store opens daily at 7am and has been closing at 2pm but now they will stay open til 8pm, seven days a week.
That has meant she has hired four staff people to work at the store too.
There are two booths, counter seating and five tables for four out on the patio area, where it's still legal to have alcohol if you like. Three two person tables will be right outside.
Meaghan said she is open to having the folks from the Highland Park Improvement Club come to her store for smaller meetings as the weather gets colder. The Club's building was destroyed in a large fire in late June.
Coming up soon are her plans for a Halloween Pet Costume event (mostly dogs), then a Night Market is being planned for early December with vendors taking up the edges of their substantial parking lot.
