The break ins that have plagued White Center in recent months continued on Wednesday morning when Patrick's Bakery and Cafe located at 15th SW and 100th SW was broken into around 6 am.
The video surveillance footage showed a white male of heavy build, rummaging through the interior of the business. Owner Patrick Choy said "He broke through my bakery window in back and took several knives to help him try to get cash drawer open. He managed to totally destroy my cash register and knives. He left out the back door with nothing. I called the police and they did file a report and took extensive finger prints. I’m lucky this time as my place was not destroyed except for the cash register."
A recent Public Safety meeting between the King County Sheriff's office, King County Local Services and local business owners addressed the continuing series of break ins and the slow response times following 911 calls. Major Joe Hodgson, Precinct Commander for the Sherif's office pointed to staffing shortages and noted that a previous incident involving a break in at the Bizzarro Italian Cafe (with one suspect turning himself in) was delayed in response by more pressing criminal incidents.
King County Executive Dow Constantine promised to find funding for increased patrols in the area, currently limited to two patrol cars for an area from 116th SW to Roxbury Street and 31st SW to Hwy 509 known as K-7.
Growing up in Rat City the locals would have solved this quickly. Time for them to take their city back.
