What is the link between pet health and human health? Luckily, pets do not appear to be very susceptible to getting COVID, but transmissible diseases do exist. Seattle Veterinary Outreach is a local non-profit whose mission is to provide subsidized veterinary care to pets of underserved populations and connect their owners to vital health, housing, and social service resources. By doing so, SVO hopes to promote a world where underserved people and their pets enjoy equal access to health and housing. This outreach is funded by a grant through King County Public Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
All clinics are held at partner sites already doing valuable community service by filling basic needs such as nutrition, social services, and housing. Current locations include Ballard Food Bank, NW Harvest, North Helpline/Bitterlake, Transform Burien, Evergreen Treatment Services, and the Recovery Café.
In addition, this month, SVO is participating in a Health Resource Fair at Compass Housing, where access to many additional services will be available through providers such as NeighborCare Health at Pike Market, Molina Medicaid Enrollment, Uplift NW, Access Wireless (free Obamaphones), and more. ###
