In a partnership with WestsideSeattle.com, Seattle videographer Mark Jaroslaw and his company, Jaroslaw Media are introducing a local video interview show, Inside West Seattle. It's also video channel on YouTube that will feature long form interviews and feature pieces that explore the backgrounds of notable West Seattle people and issues.
The show is hosted by Patrick Robinson, Editor of WestsideSeattle whose experience as a journalist and photographer of more than five decades will inform and illustrate the video content. WestsideSeattle incorporates content from Ballard, White Center, Burien and other points on Seattle's west side and is powered by the archival content from the West Seattle Herald, Ballard News Tribune, and Highline Times. The video progamming however will stay focused on West Seattle.
"West Seattle has a long history of notable personalties and the relative geographic isolation of the peninsula means people's roots here go deep," said Robinson, "The idea behind this series of interviews and features is to help people here get to know the back stories of those we talk to. So much media today relies on a five second soundbite or a tweet. We're hoping to spend a little more time and provide more depth."
The first two projects to go up on the channel are an interview with the owners of the Phoenecia Restaurant, Nadia and Sonya Khazaal who recount bit of their history, and how they managed to survive the pandemic and the closure of the West Seattle Bridge. Speaking of the bridge, the second feature on the channel is a brief look at a collection of photos Robinson shot of the much discussed structure and a short history.
Jaroslaw whose background includes news video, and shooting for commercial clients and the Southwest Seattle Historical Society is also an author. “West Seattle has so many layers and personalities that video is the only way to adequately tell his stories in any depth. I’ve lived here nearly 20 years, and I’m still learning what’s here," Jaroslaw said.
Coming up the channel will feature interviews with local photographers, pizza makers and much more.
