The ln-Lane Stop signs near crosswalks are meant to make drivers more vigilant about pedestrians on Alki where it's common for people to cross the street frequently.

If you have not driven on Alki Ave SW for awhile, you may be surprised. Once the scene of nightly cruising often punctuated by cars and motorcycles suddenly speeding up, the popular street now has speed humps and in-lane stop sign reminders for the safety of pedestrians.
SDOT installed two speed humps and in-lane pedestrian crosswalk signs on the west end of Alki Ave SW. This is a location where many people cross the street to access the beach and nearby businesses.
- Speed humps: SDOT built two sets of speed humps on Alki Ave SW. The two locations are the block between 63rd Ave SW and 62nd Ave SW, as well as the block between 58th Ave SW and 57th Ave SW.
- Crosswalk signs: Between 62nd Ave SW and 57th Ave SW on Alki Ave SW, SDOT installed in-lane crosswalk warning signs that say “State Law Stop for Pedestrians within Crosswalk.”

These improvements help create a safer experience for everyone who visits the beach and nearby businesses. These speed humps and signs were built through the City of Seattle’s Vision Zero program in coordination with the Seattle Police Department and Seattle Fire Department.
