#2023-041809/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:
Police are investigating after a shooting victim in West Seattle reported his injury Monday morning — approximately eight hours after the incident occurred.
Shortly after midnight, police responded to the 5900 block of Delridge Way Southwest for reports of a shooting. A 911 caller said he saw the shooter chasing another man before firing at him. The witness also said several subjects had fled the scene in a pickup truck immediately after the shooting.
Police arrived in the area and found no evidence of a shooting and no victims. Officers left the scene after speaking with the witness and documented the incident.
Then, at 8:11 a.m., the shooting victim called 911 from the same location to request medical aid. Police responded with Seattle Fire Department medics and spoke with the man, who had a gunshot wound to his buttock.
The victim told officers he had been shot overnight after an altercation with three suspects. He said all three suspects pulled out handguns and he was shot as he ran away. He stated he may have talked trash to unknown subjects and then felt pain where he had been shot.
The 38-year-old man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition via private ambulance.
Police continue to investigate this incident.
