The West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and West Seattle Junction came together for charity on Sunday May 21 in the Battle for West Seattle softball game, with the Chamber taking the trophy in a closely fought contest 13 - 11.
Played in Mel Olson stadium in Steve Cox Park in White Center the event was a fundraiser for the White Center Foodbank.
This game was no walk in the park. Each team came to play and the official uniforms, a beer garden and the presence of Mariners announcer Tom Hutyler doing play by play gave the game that extra polish. The Dubsea Fishsticks (the Burien based collegiate level semi-pro team) promotional staff was on hand too selling their merchandise and providing inter inning entertainment.
The game was planned to last only six innings but a decision was made on the fly to extend it to nine to continue the fun. As it was at the end of 9 it was tied, 11-11. But in the 10th inning the Chamber scored two more runs. Three outs later the game was over.
