City Council Members,
I urge you, our City Council Members, to approve Council Bill 120600 sponsored by Lisa Herbold & Alex Pedersen. It will initiate an additional enforcement tool that is provided by our State Government to allow automated speed cameras to reduce street racing on Alki & Harbor Avenue that are no longer safe. The speeding, racing, reckless & stunt driving is out of control and poses a real danger to our community and the participants.
As you all know, automated camera enforcement can increase community safety by enforcing our speed limits. Using the proposed cameras has the added benefit of not requiring face to face interactions between drivers and our Seattle Police Department. The camaras are color blind to race, color, creed or anyone’s economic situation. It should also create enough revenue to pay for itself and most likely become another revenue source for the City.
I believe it is important for our City Council Members to show more concern for our community and its safety, rather than protecting those who continually violate our laws, create an unsafe environment and disturb the peace of residents right to “Quiet Enjoyment”. This is just one solution that will show our City Councils concerns of the victims, rather that protecting those who continually violate the law.
Please support and approve Council Bill 120600.
Thank you,
Mike Gain
