West Seattle shut down Metro League rival Eastside Catholic in a state Class 3A semifinal played Friday evening at GESA Stadium in Pasco.

The Wildcats play Mount Vernon for the championship at the same site with a 7:15 p.m. Saturday start.

Boys soccer

Lake Washington 1, Ballard 0

Ballard was blanked in a Friday Class 3A semifinal match played at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup.

The Beavers return at 12:15 p.m. Saturday to play Auburn Mountainview for third and fourth place.

Softball

Heritage 13, Ballard 4

Ballard got off on the wrong foot at the Class 3A tournament at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

Ballard 6, Stanwood 4

Ballard bounced back to beat Stanwood in a consolation bracket opener played Friday afternoon.

Ballard 17, Mount Spokane 3

The Beavers cruised by Mount Spokane in Friday evening action.

Ballard plays again at the same complex with a 10 a.m. Saturday start against Juanita of Kirkland.

The Beavers must win that and an ensuing 12:30 p.m. game to reach the 2:30 p.m. battle for third and fourth place.

The losers are out.
