The businesses near Delridge Way SW set to be displaced by the light rail expansion are seeking support for funding to permit them to successfully relocate. Toward that end they are asking the public to sign a petition and to attend a rally at Ounces Taproom on July 11. Here's the letter sent out to West Seattle Health Club members.
Dear Members,
West Seattle Health Club is one of over 60 local businesses facing displacement due to the upcoming light rail expansion in our community. While we actively seek your support to request Sound Transit make modifications that would allow our health club to remain in its current location, other businesses will inevitably be forced to move. Without adequate financial assistance from Sound Transit, the sad reality is that some local businesses may not survive displacement and may never reopen.
WSHC stands with these local businesses that have helped build the unique and vibrant community we cherish. We ask for your support to ensure that these businesses receive the necessary funding and relocation assistance to successfully move and thrive alongside the light rail expansion, rather than being sacrificed for it.
To be clear, this is not about whether you support the light rail or not; it is about supporting local businesses to ensure they receive the funding they deserve if they are forced to relocate.
TWO ASKS: 1) Please show your support by signing the petition here and adding your voice to the growing chorus of community members in support of local businesses.
2) If you haven’t already, please sign the petition here to specifically urge Sound Transit to consider route changes that would allow WSHC to remain by moving a pillar 20ft.
Additionally, we invite members and community members to participate in a Rally Event in Support of WSHC and Local Businesses Facing Displacement on Thursday, July 11 from 4-7 pm at our neighbor around the corner and fellow impacted business, Ounces Taproom & Beer Garden (3809 Delridge Way SW). For event information, please reach out to longtime WSHC Member and Ounces Owner laurel@ounceswestseattle.com or stay tuned for more information to follow.
Thank you, as always, for your valued support and membership!
