Viewpoint Pond on Juneau Street SW in West Seattle’s Highpoint has been drained to remove silt, and invasive species. The Highpoint homeowners association sponsors this kind of work every five to seven years.
Normally the pond, fed by rainwater and runoff is kept at a reasonably shallow depth The collected rainwater then flows from the pond to Longfellow Creek and the West Seattle watershed. The pond collects most of the rainfall from the High Point Community and will fill naturally with rainfall in the coming months.
The pond can hold a maximum of 7.3 million gallons of water which could fill 11 Olympic sized swimming pools.
The path around the pond is a quarter mile in length.
