The original van, driven by the grunge band The Melvins, which features artwork by Kurt Cobain will be on display at Easy Street Records for Record Store Day April 12.
West Seattle music fans are in for a treat on April 12, as Julien's Auctions, in partnership with Record Store Day, brings a legendary piece of Seattle rock history to Easy Street Records. The Melvins' touring van, adorned with original artwork by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, will be on public display at the iconic record store located at 4559 California Ave SW from 7 am to 10 am.
This exclusive preview marks the first time ever the van has been shown to the public, offering an intimate glimpse into a raw and authentic artifact from the grunge era. The appearance precedes its inclusion in Julien’s “Music Icons” auction, scheduled for May 30 and 31 in New York City.
"Seattle is the birthplace of so many defining moments in rock history," said Darren Julien, President/CEO of Julien’s Auctions. "We’re thrilled to partner with Record Store Day and these beloved local record stores to give fans a front-row seat to this one-of-a-kind piece of music memorabilia before it goes to auction."
Following its morning appearance at Easy Street Records, the van will also be displayed at Silver Platters later the same day. However, the West Seattle stop at Easy Street Records offers a prime opportunity for local fans to witness this unique piece of music history firsthand.
The display coincides with Record Store Day 2025, which also takes place on April 12. This annual event celebrates the role of independently-owned record stores in their communities. The timing underscores the significance of stores like Easy Street in preserving and showcasing music history.
Following the public viewings, sections of the van, including the area with Cobain’s original artwork, will be cut off and prepared for the May “Music Icons” Sale at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. Don't miss this chance to witness a piece of rock and roll history before it goes to auction.
Julien's Auctions aims to bring iconic moments back to life through such artifacts. Record Store Day is managed by the Department of Record Stores and promotes independent record stores year-round.
