District 1 City Councilmember Rob Saka shared this update on changes coming for the Duwamish Head viewpoint parking area this spring and summer.
Because Alki’s Duwamish Head is a prime location for ongoing loud street racing and criminal activities into the early morning hours, I identified funding in the budget to study and implement a reconfiguration of the parking in 2025. According to SDOT, the project is expected to be completed by the end of June pending a number of variables, including weather and emergencies, crew schedules, design variables, sign production, and procurement of materials. Outreach (primarily to inform nearby residents) will happen in early May, and construction will happen throughout late May and early June. This will include grinding angled parking stalls, installing barriers, and updating channelization and signs.
