Heather Sabin, Representing City of Federal Way, won one of the three Top Talent Awards and was chosen Third Runner up at Miss SEAFAIR Coronation Tuesday, July 26 at McEachern Auditorium at MOHAI. As a top talent winner Sabin was one of the three contestants to perform her talent at the coronation that evening. The other two talent performers were Leah Wickstrom, representing South King County and Cara Rudd, Federal Way resident representing Greater Tacoma.
Sabin said she was thrilled to have completed the competition with these College Scholarship Awards (total of $ 600) but is more pleased with what she has gained through the entire experience as a SEAFAIR princess and representative of Federal Way.. Sabin, along with 17 other women from the Puget Sound region competed in categories including academics, panel interview, talent, on-stage interview questions, roundtable discussion and presentation (poise).
Now in its 56th year, the Miss SEAFAIR Scholarship Program for Women is a summer experience for young women who seek academic scholarships as well as opportunities for leadership development. Participants can win up to $12,000 in scholarships and serve as SEAFAIR representatives while visiting over 20 community festivals and parades throughout the Puget Sound region.
Participants in the Miss SEAFAIR Scholarship Program have the opportunity to showcase their talents through academics, creative expression, public speaking, community service, and participation in SEAFAIR summertime events.
Participants will also spread goodwill as they visit local with retirement communities and interact with patients at Children's Hospital.
SEAFAIR is proud to have goal-oriented young women participating in the Scholarship Program each year. Many of the past participants have gone on to successful college years and professional careers.
