Maddie Maloney is only 15, yet she's putting together a charity event to raise funds for the South King County MultiService Center. She's tapping into the local talent of Jazz Guitarist Michael Powers, asking her friends in the Todd Beamer High School Jazz Choir, and their teacher, Ms. Stephanie Schneider, to sing along with her.
The event, which will be held Saturday, September 17, 2005, at 7 pm is being sponsored by Korum Foundation For Kids, Hart Insurance Company, Alliance Printing, Brian Berlage CPA, Olympic Aerospace and kmConsulting.
Maloney came up with the idea after starting high school. "I kept hearing about volunteering and doing community service, which I've done before. I thought it would be kinda cool to do something new and creative that I could get other kids excited about."
Popular, local Jazz Guitarist Michael Powers is headlining the event. Schneider, along with Maloney, Lindsey Boice, Amanda Lentz, Ashley Martin and Belinda Yu will sing solos. The Todd Beamer Jazz Choir will sing a mix of Jazz, Blues and upbeat selections. At least 15 other Todd Beamer High School students are volunteering for activities such as selling tickets and making set decorations.
Maloney is an incoming Sophomore at Todd Beamer High School and, together with her mother, has been working on the Sing Out for nearly a year, securing sponsorships, lining up the talent and organizing the event.
