Friends of the Hylebos Wetlands will celebrate the annual homecoming of native Hylebos Creek salmon at the Second Annual Ruby Dance Stewardship Dinner, to be held on Saturday, September 23, 2006, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
The event will raise funds to support conservation and restoration of green space, forests, wetlands and streams, in the Federal Way to Fife area.
The event will gather more than 200 guests for an evening guided by Master of Ceremonies, Keith Eldridge, KOMO TV reporter and anchor. The name, Ruby Dance, refers to the flash of red seen as Hylebos Creek's coho salmon spawn during the fall spawning season.
A silent auction will kick off the evening, keynoted by Douglas MacDonald, Secretary, Washington State Department of Transportation. MacDonald will speak about the benefit of conservation partnerships, highlighting a success story from our own Hylebos Watershed. He will be joined at the podium by King County Councilmember Peter von Reichbauer, 2005 Lifetime Stewardship award recipient, who will present this year's awards. Also speaking are Mike Hrachovec, a restoration engineer with Natural Systems Design and Friends' Executive Director, Chris Carrel.
Dinner will be catered by Caf/ Pacific and will be served with fine wine compliments of Banrock Station Wines, Hylebos Blend coffee provided by Poverty Bay Coffee Company and desserts by Carmen's European Bakery.
Event sponsors include Weyerhaeuser, Puget Sound Energy, HomeStreet Bank, Marlene's Market & Deli, Port of Tacoma, Cannon Construction, DEMOCON Container Services, Woodstone Credit Union and Tacoma Hydraulic & Machine.
