Federal Way City Manager Neal Beets announced today the promotion of two long-standing City department heads to become Assistant City Managers. Promoted were: Iwen Wang, who has been Federal Way's Finance and Management Services Director for nearly 13 years, and Cary Roe, who has served as Public Works Director for over 12 years.
As an Assistant City Manager, Roe will be in charge of the Public Works Department,
Community Development Services Department, and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department.
Wang will be in charge of Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, the City Clerk's office, public information, and performance measurement. She will also help out with economic development.
"Iwen and Cary are deserving and will do a good job," said Federal Way Mayor Michael Park. "The Council is very familiar with their good work."
Wang said she is looking forward to the new challenges.
"I love the City of Federal Way, and look forward to contributing in an important way," she said.
Before coming to the City of Federal Way in 1994, Wang was the Deputy Finance Director in Renton. She has a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston, and is also a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.
Roe said the change is important to him and to the City.
"I look forward to improving our service to customers. The departments under me - Public Works, Parks, and Community Development - are critical to the success of the city."
Roe is a professional engineer.
Previously, he worked for the City of Auburn, primarily in water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater utilities.
Beets said he is pleased with the appointments.
"Cary and Iwen have made many important contributions to the City. I look forward to working with them to take the City to the next level."
