Boys tennis
Class 4A West Central District action opened Wednesday, May 16, with the opening round and quarterfinals taking place.
Colin Zalewski and Kyle Christianson of Todd Beamer made it to the quarterfinals but lost to Andrew Sing and Keith Bradley-Hewett of Olympia to be knocked into consolation play. Zalewski and Christianson won their opening match, 7-6 (4), 6-2, over Jeff Collen and Matt Henderson of Gig Harbor.
Sam Yi and Branden Muraki of Thomas Jefferson lost their opener by a 6-0, 6-1 score to Henry and Cameron Williams of Olympia. TJ teammate Joe Lee lost his singles opener to Eric DeBusschere of Olympia, 6-1, 6-1.
Jake Stewart of Federal Way took a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Dan Lee of Curtis in his opener.

Judy Liening of Todd Beamer won her tournament quarterfinal by a 6-3, 6-0 score Friday after opening with a
6-1, 6-3 victory. Sara Lin of Decatur, meanwhile, won her opener, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, before losing her quarterfinal, 6-0, 6-1.
Decatur teammates Kiley Heard and Karina Frazier were 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 winners over Bree Rowe and Marissa Ventura of Federal Way in the opening round, but Heard and Frazier took a 6-3, 7-5 loss in their quarterfinal.
Beamer's Sam Bowman and Melissa Canfield won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to open before losing, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
