SeaTac Police and King County Sheriff's detectives were continuing their investigation late last week into the apparent murder of a taxi driver whose body was found in his burned-out cab on July 10.
Firefighters who responded to a 3:30 a.m. alarm for a car fire near South 177th Street and 38th Avenue South, made the gruesome discovery after extinguishing the blaze. The victim's body was burned beyond recognition, according to investigating officers.
But dozens of Sikh taxi drivers who gathered at the crime scene said he was 43 and also a Sikh.
As of Friday last afternoon, the King County Medical Examiner's Office had yet to identify the victim.
Nor had any arrests been made, according to sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, who said a search warrant had been served earlier in the week on a house near where the cab was found. Urquhart did not comment on why the house was searched or what was found inside.
Fellow taxi drivers, who identified the victim from the numbers on his cab, said he had been dispatched to pick up a passenger in the area just before he was killed.
