The 43rd District Democrats held a successful panel and endorsement vote on the Alaskan Way Viaduct on Feb. 21 at the University Heights Community Center.
Panelists Cary Moon (People's Waterfront Coalition), Todd Vogel (Allied Arts of Seattle), Peter Sherwin (Repair and Prepare), and Gene Hoglund (No Tunnel Alliance) and moderator C.R. Douglas (the Seattle Channel) addressed a packed crowd of more than seventy community members and activists.
Speaker Frank Chopp also spoke, urging the membership to reject an expensive tunnel and to keep an open mind about design options for an elevated structure. Seattle City council members including Sally Clark, David Della, and Peter Steinbrueck attended.
After heated debate, the 43rd District officially endorsed a "No" vote on both Advisory Measures One and Two.
