Stan Geddes, head coach of the Ballard Beavers girl's golf team has been honored by his peers who voted him Coach of the Year in KingCo.
Geddes, lead the team to an unexpected third place finish in the KingCo Medalist Tournament last month behind Redmond and Eastlake. The Beavers four players qualifying for the districts and two advanced to state.
In the past Ballard has come up well short of beating eastside schools, that have students with memberships at private country clubs and access to golf professionals during the off season.
"We had a very successful season for a school that had not been at that level. Only a couple of schools were ahead of us. I was happy," said Geddes.
By winning the Coach of the Year award, Geddes said the league's coaches see the improvement in Ballard golf.
"I have enjoyed being a coach. To see them (players) do as well as they have done and feel good about themselves. They have worked hard and earned respect. We have had a very rewarding year," said Geddes.
In the fall, Val Seid, head coach of the Ballard girl's varsity soccer team was named Coach of the Year. Last month, baseball coach Kevin Miller earned the KingCo Coach of the Year honor.
