Three daily openings of the Fremont Bridge from now until the Fremont Bridge project is completed early next year, will take 15 minutes, instead of the usual 3 to 5 minutes.
These longer openings will take place at 5 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 11 p.m.
The Seattle Department of Transportations says drivers headed over the bridge may want to schedule their trips accordingly, or take an alternate route at these times.
These longer openings are due to opening both halves of the bridge using a temporary winch. For other openings, only one half of the bridge will open at a time.
In addition, the bridge will be closed to all vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists:
- Wednesday, July 18, 9 p.m. to Thursday, July 19, 6 a.m.
- Thursday, July 19, 9 p.m. to Friday, July 20, 6 a.m.
- Monday, July 23, 9 p.m. to Tuesday, July 24, 6 a.m.
- Tuesday, July 24, 9 p.m. to Wednesday, July 25, 6 a.m.
For the closures, the city transportation department contractor will provide a shuttle service for pedestrians and bicyclists from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. between the north and south ends of the bridge (from roughly North 34th Street and Fremont Avenue North to roughly Nickerson and Fourth Avenue North) making the loop approximately every 20 to 30 minutes. Signs will be placed noting the pick up and drop off locations.
Buses will be rerouted during these closures. As the date approaches, see Metro Online at http://transit.metrokc.gov or call Rider Information, 553-3000.
Marine traffic will not be impacted by these closures.
