If you are wondering what The Federal Way Noon Rotary Club is up to and what they are doing for the students in the community, here's a summary:
Dictionaries were purchased and donated to every third grader at Mirror Lake Elementary School. Their thank you notes said, "Thank you for the dictionary. I think it is nice. I love it so much. Thank you. Sincerely, S.O" and, "Thank you for the nice dictionary. It will help me learn English. I can use it for my vocabulary. Sincerely, AT".
More kids in the community benefited through other projects. July saw the Home Depot, Noon Rotary and Boys and Girls Club working together for a new playground structure for the Boys and Girls Club. In addition, Noon Rotary donated money for scholarships for students at the Federal Way Symphony's Summer Music Academy which concluded July 16.
Two Student of the Month awards, one from Truman High School and one from Thomas Jefferson High School, were given as well. Lauren Mosley is a senior who served as Board Member and Auction Coordinator for the Truman Foundation and is the photographer for the school annual. A participant in Running Start at Highline Community College, she also teaches Sunday school and plans to attend college to become a chef. Uyen Tran, a senior from Thomas Jefferson High School was chairperson for homecoming this year and also served as class treasurer. Ranked in the top ten of the graduating class, Uyen is also active in DECA, art competitions and varsity tennis. This student says, "After this year I plan on going to Washington State University to study hospitality business management."
August is the month of the Noon Rotary backpack project. Spearheaded by Monna Lux of Lux and Associates, the project will give over 125 financially disadvantaged young people their own backpacks full of school supplies. They will be distributed at the Boys and Girls Club on August 19 at 4 pm. If you would like to help fund the backpack project, contact: Cami@luxcpas.com.
