Burien's non-profit Environmental Science Center will host its annual fundraiser at Seahurst Park Sunday, Aug. 7.
Speakers at the 4 p.m. event will include former Gov. Mike Lowry and WashPIRG director Robert Pregulman.
The Shinnyo En Foundation will be awarded for its financial support.
A $15 minimum donation is suggested for those attending, which includes food.
Volunteers with the center are working to raise the funds needed to support their free public programs and for aiding in the construction of a classroom/community building at Seahurst Park.
They are working directly with the city of Burien, state and federal agencies, and private grant organizations to raise the funds.
The Environmental Science Center seeks to foster understanding, stewardship, and preservation of the environment for future generations.
Center programs encompass not only Puget Sound's maritime waters and associated freshwater habitats, but also recognize the urban environments of our local residents.
Learning activities explore a broad range of sensory experiences and natural history in both classroom and outdoor settings.
The ESC also focuses on supporting the formal environmental and natural history curriculums of the Highline School District, South King County Community College, and other South King County learning programs. For more information, contact Scott Price at 206-419-7516 or Scott@WaterHavens.com.
