I liked the cover photo of the "famed Alki flower house." I've often admired it while down at the beach.
However, as to its fame, I wonder how many people know anything about it, such as the location and the identity of the person or persons responsible for the extravaganza of color. Surely the goal was not for the owners to keep a low profile, as anyone who loves flowers must surely slam on the brakes upon seeing the display for the first time. I would love to learn more about it.
On another subject, I want to say how much I appreciate your obituary section. Even though I seldom see a story about someone I have known, I find the biographies fascinating, and would like to see more of them. West Seattle is teeming with people from elsewhere. They should all be subscribing to the Herald. It fosters such a sense of community, and keeps one informed in a way that no other media can.
As for the obituaries, I find they are a link to the past of our area, to times that weren't always economic boom times. I'm thinking of the days when the community was largely glued together by public schools, churches, scouting, and fraternal organizations. Those previous generations deserve to be recognized.
