Stuffed animals, friends, swimming pools and rainbows filled colorful pages when Federal Way youths were asked to draw what they love about their city.
Soon thousands of commuters will see how kids visualize Federal Way, when two of the pictures will appear on billboards in the area.
The Federal Way branch of the King County Boys & Girls Club and Woodstone Credit Union coordinated the creative effort.
"The younger kids were thinking about what they could do in Federal Way, like ride their bikes," said Jamie Johnson, a teacher at the Boys & Girls Club. About 40 artists ages 6 to 12 submitted drawings.
Artwork was recently selected for the billboards, to be posted in September and October. Malik, age 7, decided the best thing about Federal Way was playing outside. Her picture shows two friends jumping rope under a bright blue sky. Kayzha, age 11, explained on her poster that what she loves about Federal Way is "hanging out with friends and family." She drew a smiling girl with a basketball, shooting hoops with two friends.
"We're pleased to show the community what our kids love about Federal Way - the relationships they value and the activities that matter to them," said Susan Streifel, Woodstone CEO. "We share the kids' views that building relationships is important for a strong community."
