FWTC athletes shine at nationals

National track meet season just ended with the Federal Way Track Club leaving its prints everywhere it went.
The boys team took third place in the national meet at Indianapolis, Ind., giving the squad three-straight third place finishes.
"It was our third year in a row to get third for the boys and the girls seventh," said FWTC coach Darryl Genest. "It's a big accomplishment. We did very well. A runner of ours ran in the world championships."
David Goldstone of Spring Valley had that honor, coming away with a fifth place trophy. He had taken first in the national 1,500 Bantam boys race in 5:04.37.
Auburn graduate Chris Lukezic took second in the U.S. championships and Decatur's Becky Williams landed second in the 200 steeplechase in a time of 7 minutes, 56.77 seconds.
Federal Way was helped by relay points in the U.S. Open that is available for anyone in the nation of any age.
The 1,600 relay for the Young Men's division went to Federal Way in 3:37.69 and the youth girls also took first in the 3,200 relay in 10:38.04. The 3,200 boys relay was also won by Federal Way in 8:54.13 and the 3,200 young men's relay race went to Federal Way in 8:31.85.
The girls 1,600 relay took second place in 3:45.35.
Justin Englund of the FWTC took second in the boys 3,000 intermediate race in 9:17.16 ahead of Julian Cowan's 9:30.33, Colby Peters' fourth place finish in 9:32.46. Justin Helms took sixth in 9:41.94.
Englund also snagged second in the 1,500 intermediate boys in 4:20.34, with Aaron Minsk fifth (4:30.18) and Justin Elm 4:34.07.
Brittany Smith took second in the girls intermediate triple jump at a distance of 10.88 meters and Ashlee Sincraugh placed third in the 1,500 youth girls in 5:01.51.
Justin Hardersen took second in the 400 hurdles young men's division in 58.40 and he was third in the young men's 110 hurdles in 15.27.
Chris Pokorny came in third in the 400 dash for youth boys in 59.17.
Rashid Malik was third in the 800 boys division in 2:04.57 with Minsk fifth (2:11.28) ahead of Will Hardin's 2:15.84.
D.J. May ran to second place in the 400 dash Midget boys division in 1:03.87 and he also took fifth in the 200-meter dash in 28.06.
Nathan Jowett captured fourth in the Midget boys javelin at 35.57 meters and teammate Andrew Lankford came in 18th at 12.67 meters.
Ashley Verkler took fourth in the young women's 800 run in 2:34.44.
Peter VanNuland finished fifth in the youth boys 800 in 2:18.42 ahead of Pokorny (sixth, 2:19.99) and Guy Massingill (eighth, 2:21.39).
Katie Pellitteri placed fifth in the youth girls 800 race in 2:36.25 and she was also 12th in the 1,500 youth girls in 5:14.02 with Erin Chinchar ninth (5:12.79).
Maddison Cowan came in seventh in the 800 Bantam girls race in 3:01.57 and Christine Carr took eighth in 3:04.57, whil e in the 1,500 Bantam girls action Carr finished fourth in 6:04.34 and Cowman was fifth in 6:07.70.
Jesse Goldstone took sixth in the 400-meter dash for sub-Bantam boys in 1:34.41.
Jayson Williams was seventh in the young men's 100-meter dash in 11.50 and he was also eighth in the 200-meter dash in 23.56.
Amy Harris placed eighth in the intermediate girls 800 in 2:37.79 and fifth in the 3,000 girls intermediate run in 11:54.11. Kristi Blaisdell snagged seveth in the 3,000 in 12:30.54.
Nicole Jewett finished fifth in the Batam girls javelin at 14.70 meters. Andrew Jewett placed fifth in the youth boys javelin at 27.03.
Zachary Smith took a fifth place finish in the intermediate boys triple jump at 11.79 meters, while Brittany Smith secured sixth in the young women's long jump at 4.94 and Nathan Jowett was sixth in the Midget boys high jump at 1.30 meters. Jowett was eighth in the youth shot put at 7.83. Nicole Jowett took seventh place in the shot put for Bantam girls at 3.64 meters.
Sixth place in the young men's 800-meter run went to Curt Lockard in 2:01.14. John-Mark Chittwood was eighth in 2:03.05 with Jacob Jones ninth (2:04.52) and Sterling Smart 12th (2:05.50). Lockart was also sixth in the young men's 1,500 in 4:15.23 with Jones 10th in 4:23.64 and Devon Heinen 14th in 4:30.34.
Kristi Blaisdell was eighth in the girls intermediate 1,500-meter run in 5:44.37.
In the intermediate boys 1,500, Guy Massingill was seventh in 4:45.01 immediately in front of Peter Van Nuland (4:45.81) and Chris Pokorny (4:51.79).
Rea Lankford put the shot 6.12 meters and threw the javelin 16.05 for Federal Way.
Andrew Jowett placed sixth in the youth discus at 25.92 meters and Nathan Jowett seventh in the boys Midget discus at 22.63. Jeff Merdich was seventh in the intermediate boys pole vault at 3.50 meters.
Andrew Lankford finished 14th in the Midget boys shot put at 5.68 meters.
Jesse Goldstone came in ninth in the boys sub-Bantam long jump at 2.87 and Maddison Cowan 12th in the Bantam long jump at 2.84.
Erin Chinchar was seventh in the youth girls 3,000-meter run in 11:03.65 and Ashlee Sincraugh eighth in 11:04.36. Katie Pellitteri was 11th in 11:22.59.
