A man was fatally shot by an Issaquah police officer Sept. 16 at the Jet Inn at South 142nd Street and Pacific Highway South in Tukwila.
The Issaquah Police Department had been working on an unlawful imprisonment case for about a month that involved the 44-year-old man from California and a 43-year-old woman from Issaquah.
After the two disappeared earlier, a neighbor had turned in a missing-person report.
After being informed last week that the couple was at the motel, Issaquah police with support from Tukwila police came up with a plan to arrest the suspect.
When they were arrived at the motel last Friday, the suspect pulled a knife on the Issaquah officer and the officer opened fire and shot the suspect.
Five Issaquah officers and seven Tukwila officers were at the scene, but most were not around the suspect at the time of the shooting.
"It's an Issaquah thing that we participated in," said Tukwila Assistant Chief Darrel Baskin.
"No Tukwila guys shot their weapons, and no officers were hurt," Baskin said.
The Kent Police Department is investigating the case since Tukwila officers were at the scene.
The Issaquah officer is an eight-year veteran and is currently on administrative leave pending the investigation.
